Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, known as a “tummy tuck”, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat and skin from the middle and lower abdomen and strengthen the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Description

Pictures before and after treatment

Excess skin and subcutaneous tissue may be formed as a result of being overweight, significant weight loss or pregnancy, when the muscles of the abdominal wall slightly part and stretch marks appear on the skin. All of these problems can be solved by an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

Mini abdominoplasty

If excess skin and subcutaneous fat appear only in the lower abdomen area, it is possible to choose a mini abdominoplasty, which is less demanding for the client.

Objective of the treatment

Both types of surgery improve the contours of the abdominal wall. However, it is important to realise that after surgery, small visible scars remain in the lower abdomen area and in the case of a full abdominoplasty, also around the navel. But if you follow the advice of our physicians, scars can be made much less conspicuous through patient care.

Before the treatment

The state of the abdominal wall and overall health of the client must be first evaluated by a specialist at our clinic. Based on this examination, the doctor will recommend the optimal solution. The client will also be informed about the surgery, post-operative regimen and potential risks.
Tummy tuck is performed under general anaesthesia, which means some pre-operative tests and examination by a general practitioner are required. The surgery is scheduled for mornings and clients must arrive with an empty stomach; smokers should ideally give up on their habit before and after the surgery.

During the treatment

Tummy tuck itself takes about 2 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. The surgeon will start removing excess skin and subcutaneous tissue from the abdominal crease upwards - around the navel to the arches of the ribs. During the surgery, it is also possible to correct parted abdominal muscles by sewing them together, strengthening the abdominal wall. Liposuction of the hips may also be performed at the same time. To ensure the scars are as small as possible, wounds are closed with a special subcutaneous absorbable suture.

During the procedure and one or two days afterwards, antibiotics are administered to prevent infection. Drains are also introduced to lead excess fluid away from the body.

After the treatment

After the surgery, clients are usually hospitalised at our clinic for 2 days. The abdominal wall must be compressed with an elastic waistband or compression trousers for 5 weeks. Redressing and checkups are usually scheduled once a week for 3 weeks.

The minimum period of sick leave is 2-4 weeks, depending on the scope of the treatment. Clients should refrain from sports activities for 2 months. Scars from the surgery will be red and stiff to the touch for the first few months, but will gradually fade and soften. They can be made much less conspicuous through pressure massages or the application of a biostimulating laser.
